We all know that dogs have been called man’s best friend for many years, but many dogs continue to prove just how true that statement is! Recently in Canada a Golden Retriever named Angel saved her owner from a cougar attack! Angle is only a mere 18 months old, but she still knew that when a cougar started to come toward her young owner she needed to step between the two of them.

Angel’s owner, Austin Forman, is a young boy who was collecting firewood in his back yard near Vancouver. He saw something running at him, but only thought that it was another dog. When the cougar run under a nearby light the boy saw that it was a cougar and became quite scared. Angel stepped between Austin and Austin ran into his house frantically yelling to his mother “A cougar is eating Angel.”

The mother then called police who arrived within one minute. The cougar was shot 2 times but did not stop attacking the Retriever; the cougar was attacking the dog’s head and neck. The officer then got within 5-feet of the cougar then shot and killed him. Even after the last bullet killed the cougar it was still biting down on Retriever’s head.

It seems as though the Retriever is going to recover fully. She had puncture wounds in her head and neck. She also had a swollen eye. Angel’s name seems to be more than a coincident. Luckily for this family this dog has as much loyalty to them as they do to her! They now say that they know she is their guardian angel.

The animal instincts never fail to amaze me! We have coyotes near my house you can often hear them from inside with all doors and windows closed. It is amazing to hear them all, but also scares me. I would not handle watching my dog being attacked very well! We have been told that they know coyotes in this neighborhood have killed at least 3 dogs! So sad!
